The 7 Days Nyiragongo Hike & Serengeti Safari is an East African safari package that takes you through to the top East Africa’s tour destinations. Nyiragongo Climbing & Serengeti Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Nyiragongo Mountain
Wake up to a delicious breakfast and proceed to exit the town, towards northwestwards through the scenic countryside. Drive through Virunga chain highlands, Gisenyi and enter D.R. Congo through Goma border. Depending on your place of accommodation, proceed to the base of the mountain in Mikeno or Bukima sectors. Check in at your lodge for accommodation and night stay.
Day 2: Hike to the top of Nyiragongo
Leave your hotel/lodge in the morning, proceed to the mountain base to begin a complete day of adventure; have briefing by the head guide, the trekking begins from Kibati Ranger Post, the trail head for Nyiragongo volcano trek. Climbing Mount Nyiragongo begins at about 10:00am and it lasts for nearly 7 hours, with many climbers reaching the summit by 5:00pm. Faster and experienced climbers can reach earlier, but nevertheless the experience remains similar. You will spend the night on the crater rim in the mountain shelters.
Day 3: Descend from the Mountain and return to Kigali. Connecting flight to Arusha airport
Begin the descent as early as 6am and by 10:00am, you’ll have arrived at Kibati ranger station. Once at the mountain base, relax with a snack and later proceed back to Kigali via Goma, check out of the border, and join your Rwandan driver guide for a transfer to Kigali, to catch up with your connecting flight to Arusha airport.
Day 4: Arusha – Serengeti National Park
Our Tanzania Safari guide will pick you up from the place of accommodation in Arusha after breakfast at 08.30am, drive for about 6 hours to Serengeti National Park with picnic lunch. Arrive at the park for full day of game drives till late afternoon when you retire back to the lodge/camp for dinner and night stay. Serengeti is famed for its unique and profusion of game, ranging from Africa’s Big 5 to lesser mammals.
Day 5: Fully day game safari in Serengeti National Park
This day you will head into the wilderness of Serengeti and last the entire day exploring this fantastic reserve. Undertake both day and evening game drives, and at the end of each, you retire back to your lodge in the middle of Serengeti where you can relax, have lunch and gaze at the beautiful sunset.
Serengeti national park covers an area of approximately 30,000 Sq.km in the north of Tanzania, towards the southern border of Kenya, though 80% of it is situated in Tanzania. During the game drive, you may be lucky to spot great migration, a movement that involves about 1.5 million herbivores and thousands of predators fleeing drought from Serengeti to search of fresh water and grazing in Maasai Mara national park. Due to the fact that vast grasslands cover much of the park (more than a third), there are numerous savannah game which call it home throughout the year.
Day 6: Transfer to Ngorongoro & half day game drive
Wake up early in the morning, for breakfast before making your way through to the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. This historical crater is the world’s largest intact crater, made up of 20km diameter and 600m high and estimated to be host to 30,000 large mammals permanently dwelling in the crater. Ngorongoro crater features a Salt Lake at its center, and so animals find it a favorable place to stay and feed. Thus, this crater has become one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in the world!
Other than profusion of animals, the Ngorongoro is filled with rich culture and communities, including the Masai and Hadza people who live together in harmony with the wildlife that all call this place home. From the rim, look out over the pleasant crater and all its wonderful inhabitants.
Day 7: Transfer to Arusha & departure
On this last day after a leisurely breakfast at the lodge you can choose to either visit a Maasai community or go for a nature walk in the Ngorongoro forests. Ask to be guided by an armed ranger as you walk the lush forest and on a lucky day you might meet some herds of elephants and buffaloes, as well as other forest species like the duikers, and occasionally lions, leopards and more. After the experience, transfer back to Arusha town with a brief stop at Karatu and Mto wa Mbu market towns where you can mix and mingle shortly with the locals and do some souvenir shopping along the way.
