12 Days Vacation in Uganda

This 12 days vacation in Uganda offers you a mixed experience of primates, wildlife, birds, nature and relaxation. This Uganda safaris package takes you to most of the top national parks in Uganda. The highlight is the Uganda gorilla trekking encounter in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Day 1: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel in Kampala on this 1st day of your 12 days vacation in Uganda, drive to Murchison Falls National Park through Luwero town, have an optional stopover at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for an encounter with endangered southern black Rhinos. This sanctuary was established mainly to protect these rhinos from poachers and to grow their numbers following their extinction in the 1980s. Have a stopover in Masindi for lunch and after proceed to Murchison falls national park with a visit to top of the falls to view these magnificent waterfalls.

Gaze at River Nile which – world’s longest river as it passes through a small gap which is about 7m wide, flowing 43 meters down making it look very stunning to the viewers. Retreat from this tour and proceed to the lodge for check in.

Day 2:  Game drive and boat cruise

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel on day 2 of your 12 days vacation in Uganda, you will continue to search for the wildlife species on an epic game drive. Murchison falls national park is the largest of all parks in Uganda and it covers 3,840 Sq. Km, making it hub for a number of wildlife and bird species and vegetation which ranges from savannah to riparian forests, swamp lands all inhabiting vast range of wildlife species that include; leopards, elephants, lions, hyenas, buffalos, giraffes, etc.

Bird species that you can encounter during a morning game drive may include blue throated roller, forest robin chat, the shoebill stork, Ituri Batis, yellow billed, Tit Hylia, Uganda woodland warbler, etc. After lunch at the lodge, prepare to enjoy a boat cruise on the Nile River. The boat will allow you to get close to the water animals such as hippos, Nile crocodiles, and numerous mammals. The Nile has got much attractive bird life which is also enjoyed while taking this afternoon boat trip; these include; the bee eaters, yellow billed birds, colored king fishers, shoebill stork, grey throated warbler, and others.

Day 3: Drive to Kibale National Park

Drive early from Murchison falls National Park after breakfast; pass through the Albertine rift escarpments, view this beautiful lake and its encompassing scenery. Have a stopover in Hoima at any hotel to have lunch, after proceed to River Nkusi joining which pours its waters into Lake Kyoga. Pass through many traditional villages viewing local people carrying out agriculture. Have a chance to take some photos of the rolling hills filled with traditional cash crops.

Enjoy fort portal which is in the foot hills of Mountain Rwenzori filled with tea plantations, after enjoying this platform of green tea; proceed to Kibale Forest National Park which is one of the great rain forest in Africa. The forest is mainly known for around 13 Primate Species with chimpanzees being the main tracked species. The other primate species include the golden monkeys, white and black Colobus monkeys, as well as the bird species. The park is also next to Bigodi wetland which is owned and managed by the local people in the area, this place is known as a primate hub as well as bird watching.

On arrival to the park, check in to your lodge and after continue to visit the scenic crater lakes region plus the terraced tea plantations around the hills of fort portal. The Crater Lake found on the Lake Nyinambuga where visitors can take a walk as they enjoy the cool breezes of this lake. After, come back to the lodge and enjoy dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest & Bigodi wetland visit

Wake up so early and move to Kanyanchu ranger station as early as 8:00am to start your chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest. Chimpanzees are considered to be the closest relatives of human beings since they share 98% of their DNA with that of the Humans. As you continue with the search of these beautiful chimps, you may meet other primate and animal species including L’Hoest’s Monkeys, black and White Colobus monkeys, red tailed Monkeys, pottos, grey cheeked Mangabeys, bush babies, etc.

Bird species include the little greenbul, yellow spotted nectar, green breasted pitta, yellow-rumped tinkerbird, crowned eagle, black bee spotted eater as well as a few forest elephants. These primates are located by listening to their pant hooting calls, and then moving to the places where they are calling from. Get a chance to observe them as they feed, socialize, jiggle, feed as well as jumping around the trees.

After the chimpanzee trekking, return back to the lodge for lunch prepare to visit Bigodi Wetland sanctuary. Here you can view more primates, birds as well as mammals like the blue monkeys, mongoose, bush pigs, baboons, otters, Bush bucks and many more. The place is also known for many bird species like the green breasted pitta and the Great Blue Turaco. This is one of the great days of your 12 days vacation in Uganda.

Day 5: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early morning breakfast, enjoy a walk along the foot hills of the Rwenzori Mountains on a glance at the great peak of these mountains of the moon. After the walk, proceed with your drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, this park is just 3 hours’ drive away from Kibale National Park. Queen Elizabeth National Park is famously known for large number of wildlife species and primate species.

Queen Elizabeth is bordered by Lake Edward in the south west and in the north east it’s Lake George. It was named after Queen Elizabeth II and it inhabits numbers of wildlife species including; the forest hogs, Kobs, elephants, impalas, buffaloes, tree climbing lions, and the cape buffaloes and it is as well filled with many crater lakes which harbor many flamingos on several seasons.

After reaching at the park, check in and prepare to engage in an evening game drive with in the park, or just relax at the lodge. Spend the afternoon viewing many wildlife species including Uganda Kobs, lions, elephants, and buffaloes and have a chance to visit the baboon cliff which is famous for its gorgeous scenery and exciting views of the Mountains of the Moon.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park: Game drive & afternoon boat cruise

Arise early enough and enjoy a morning game drive seeing various animals like elephants, elands, buffaloes, lions, antelopes, among others. Later move back to the lodge, relax and have lunch. During the afternoon, prepare for boat cruise on Kazinga channel, seeing various number of reptiles, mammals, birds and varied vegetation like hippos, crocodiles, water bucks, buffaloes, as well as birds like the king fishers, storks,  among others.

Day 7: A nature walk and game drive

Wake up very early and proceed for a walk through the Maramagambo forest which is one of the largest tropical forests in Uganda. This forest is home to a number of primates, birds and legendry tree species. The forest harbors variety of wildlife species including; the butterflies, birds, bats and a few sightings of chimpanzees. The walk will also take you to the volcanic caves which are home to thousands of bats as well as the predator pythons.

The nature walks also take you to the blue Lake Kimeranjo which got its name after swallowing an elephant! Later in the afternoon, continue for a game drive through the Ishasha sector which is home to  the elusive tree climbing lions and many other animal species including the buffaloes, Kobs, monkeys, elephants, and many more. Overnight stay in Ishasha sector.

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast on this eight day of your 12 days vacation in Uganda, drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – a home of the endangered Mountain gorillas covering an area of 331 sq. km. Pass through the Kigezi regions and enjoy various spectacular landscapes on the way. Reach in the park and have a guided nature walk to the Batwa villages or just relax at the lodge as you admire nature in its fullness.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking

On this day magical day of your 12 days vacation in Uganda, have a great time meeting with the Mountain gorillas in Bwindi Forest. After breakfast head for briefing and later enjoy the stillness of the mist forest, see the gentle giants and other wildlife species like elephants, buffaloes, monkeys, butterflies and different bird species.

Only 1 hour is given to you to be with a family of gorillas. Trekking takes about 1 to 8 hours basing on location of these gentle giants and speed of the trekkers. After the trek, in the evening go for a guided nature walk or a community visit to the Batwa if you didn’t have it the previous day.

Day 10: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

Morning pick up by your guide and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, which is among the Uganda’s smallest Savannah national parks. The park covers an area of 371 sq. km and is home to over 332 species of birds, animals like buffaloes, zebras, Kobs, Oribis, warthogs, among others. Upon arrival, check in at the lodge and later head for a guided nature walk through the park. Have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 11: Game drive and boat cruise

Rise up for early morning breakfast on this day of your 12 days vacation in Uganda; and thereafter go for a game drive through the park where your eyes will be fed with amazing sights and sounds of wildlife such as Kobs, impalas, zebras, buffaloes, as well as unique bird species. Return to your lodge after lunch in preparation for an unforgettable boat ride experience along Lake Mburo. Variety of animals will be seen here such as the giant crocodiles, hippos and various mammal and bird life on its shores, among others.

Day 12: Return to Kampala

After breakfast on this last day of your 12 days vacation in Uganda, have another short game drive or walking safari through the park as you prepare for the journey back to Kampala. Take lunch around the equator and undertake a geographical experiment that proves the division of earth into two separate hemispheres. Proceed to Kampala and arrive in the evening or a drop off at the Airport in Entebbe just in case you have a flight on that day.
