Detailed Lake Mburo Wildlife & Horseback Riding Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo & Afternoon Boat Cruise
Morning pick up from Kampala and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s most accessible and smallest Savannah park on this first day of your 2 Days Lake Mburo Wildlife Safari.
It is situated along the main highway connecting most famous destinations in Uganda. Lake Mburo national park is approximately 4 hours’ drive from Kampala and 5 hours from Entebbe airport, driving through Kayabwe, a home of equator. Take some coffee, purchase souvenirs and shoot memorable photos of this famous monument.
Proceed on the drive through Masaka and Lyantonde districts and enjoy the sweeping plains of Ankole-Masaka cattle corridor. The journey leads you straight to the park through Nshara gate.
On a lucky day, you can spot zebras grazing together with the beautiful Ankole long-horned cows and primates playing on the road. Drive to Rwonyo jetty, have lunch at a restaurant or take your parked lunch, relax as you wait for the 2:00pm boat cruise.
The boat departs from Rwonyo jetty and takes approximately 2-3 hours returning at around 4:30pm. The boat trip on Lake Mburo is a great opportunity to spot various park’s residents ranging from mammals, reptiles and birds.
The boat sails as nearer to the shores as possible to be able to view these species at a much closer distance. Return from this boat trip and transfer to your lodge for overnight stay.
Day 2: Game drive, optional horseback riding safari and return to Kampala
Have breakfast at the lodge and begin your morning safari drive as early as possible to be able to spot many animals. A morning game drive starts at 6:30am as you head to the most populated regions of the park.
One of these is Rwonyo area, where animals congregate to lick the salt that is known to exist within the rocks.
The drive exposes one to numerous herds of buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, Impalas, bushbucks, waterbucks, eland antelopes, and numerous bird and flora species. A game drive in Lake Mburo national park takes approximately 3 – 4 hours and expect to return to the lodge by 11:00am.
Upon return, check out of the lodge and transfer to Igongo cultural center for a brief cultural tour in western Uganda’s biggest museum.
