This 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trek & Lake Bunyonyi Leisure Safari takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Lake Bunyonyi. Bwindi is Africa’s prime home for mountain gorillas with over 700 mountain gorillas calling it a home.
On the other hand, Lake Bunyonyi is Africa’s second deepest lake after Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. The trip allows trek Uganda gorillas in their natural habitats.
Detailed Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Lake Bunyonyi Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Morning pick up from your place of accommodation in Kampala or Entebbe to start of your 3 Days Bwindi Gorillas & Lake Bunyonyi Safari. Begin the journey to south west part of Uganda, passing via Masaka-Mbarara highway. This is an 8-9 long hour transfer but filled with worthwhile experiences.
Make the first stop at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe for photo moments and the water experiment to see how water swirls to different directions in two hemispheres –north and south.
Lunch break will be at Igongo country hotel or Agip Motel in Mbarara and later continue to the far south in Bwindi Impenetrable National park, having picturesque views of the Kigezi highlands, Virunga ranges and the lush flora along the way. Arrival will be in the evening.
Day 2: Gorilla trek and proceed to Lake Bunyonyi
Early morning on this second day of your 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trek & Lake Bunyonyi Leisure Safari, have breakfast and set to the park headquarters for a simple gorilla trekking briefing by the local park rangers.
They will take you through the dos and don’ts while and the forest and then divide you into groups of eight, a maximum number of people to trek a gorilla family in a day.
Gorilla trekking takes you to the thick forest, walking through the unclearly paved paths, holding unto tree branches for support.
On meeting the apes, spend one magical hour watching them play from one tree branch to the other, feeding and carrying on their daily lives and taking as many pictures as you want.
In the afternoon travel to Lake Bunyonyi and have an evening canoe ride that will take you to more than 20 islands in the interior of the lake including the historical punishment island.
This was an island where girls who got pregnant before marriage were isolated and left to die.
Day 3: Boat cruise and travel back to Kampala
Take a pre-breakfast boat cruise to explore some hidden islands of Lake Bunyonyi, and visit the numerous residents and fishermen that have lived on the shores of this lake for generations.
Return to the lodge for check out and immediately embark on a travel back to Kampala to mark the end of your 3 Days Bwindi Gorillas & Lake Bunyonyi Safari.
