Detailed Uganda Wildlife & Primates Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls; stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Upon arrival, you will be briefed about this 7 Days Uganda Wildlife & Primates Safari by our tour representative.
Immediately transfer you to Murchison Falls National Park in the north west of Uganda, the park is famous for featuring the strongest waterfalls in the world and also sheltering the four of the big five animals except rhinos which are found in the nearby Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
A first stopover will be made in Luweero town, take a break as you buy snacks, Luwero is famously known for its history of NRA liberation wars in 1980s that ushered the current Uganda’s government into power.
Another stopover will be made at Ziwa rhino sanctuary for lunch and rhino trekking. Later proceed to Murchison falls NP for accommodation and sumptuous dinner.
Day 2: Early morning game drive and Boat Cruise
Embark for an early morning game drive after breakfast; a game drive that lasts for about 3-4 hours and it will offer you a chance of seeing early riser predators like Lions, Hyenas, Leopards and so much more. You also get to see Elephants, Cape Buffaloes, Rothschild Giraffes and various antelope species and bird species. After this experience, head back to the lodge for lunch and then go for a boat Cruise on River Nile.
This is the longest river in the world harbouring various aquatic animals such as hippos, Crocodiles, birds and other animals as they come to drink water from the river, all clearly viewed during an afternoon boat trip to the bottom of Murchison falls. Head for a hike to the top of Murchison falls. You come so close to the water falls which gives an amazing view and the sound of waters as they pass through a narrow 7m gap is a wonder of its own. Join your guide and drive back to the lodge through the southern sector of the park.
Day 3: Transfer to Kibale National Park & Optional tour to the Amabere Ganyinamwiru caves in Fort portal
Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park immediately after your breakfast on this day of your 7 Days Uganda Wildlife & Primates Safari. The park is located in western Uganda and famous for harbouring up to 13 primate species including chimpanzees, blue monkeys, olive baboons, Vervet monkeys among others. The park also harbours over 400 bird species that live in rainforest trees with over 100 years.
Proceed to Fortportal for a late lunch and if time allows, continue to Amabere Ganyinamwiru caves where you will get to see stalactites and stalagmites and listen to great history about the Chwezi dynasty from the site guide. After this tour, proceed to Kibale for accommodation and dinner.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and Swamp walk in Bigodi
After an early breakfast on this fourth day of your 7 Days Uganda Wildlife & Primates Safari, gather at Kanyanchu Visitor center for pre briefing before chimpanzee trekking and be divided into different groups, and then start chimpanzee tracking in the forest guided by a ranger guide.
While in the forest, expect to see other primates other than chimps, ranging from olive baboons, elephants, colobus monkeys, Vervet monkeys, blue monkeys among others. Also you will spot different bird species such as the green breasted pitta, palm nut vulture among others.
After locating these cousins of ours, you will then spend a full 1 hour with the chimpanzees while taking pictures and recording videos as well as learning about their lifestyles.
Drive back to the lodge for lunch and in the evening be driven to Bigodi swamp for another exciting activity of community visit and bird watching encounter. Birds in the swamp are quite many including the rare great blue turaco.
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Check out from the lodge after breakfast and the driver guide will transfer you to further south passing through Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is an incredible journey because it includes game drive or tree climbing lion experience in Ishasha sector.
A brief game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park will enable you to spot a number of big and lesser mammals such as African elephants, different antelopes, herds of buffalos among others. On arrival in Bwindi, you will check in the lodge and prepare for the next day’s adventure.
Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Batwa Community Walk
Wake up early enough to prepare for a Uganda gorilla trekking adventure. After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing which approximately takes 30-40 minutes.
You will be assigned in the group of 8 members to trek only one gorilla family. Head into the forest guided by an armed ranger who uses a radio tracker to communicate with other trackers to locate a family of gorillas in the forest.
The actual time to be with your allocated family of gorillas is just 1 hour though the whole activity takes 2-8 hours depending on the volatility of a gorilla family allocated to your group.
Enjoy the presence of these primates, take pictures and learn about their day to day lifestyle. After one hour, trek back to the starting point and drive to the lodge for lunch.
In the evening, have a community tour, where you’ll enjoy the Batwa culture through music and dances, daily activities after your lunch. Return for dinner and overnight in the evening at the lodge.
Day 7: Journey back to Kampala/Entebbe and stopover at the Uganda equator
Have a nice breakfast in the morning, checkout of the lodge and start the journey back to Kampala/Entebbe airport. Enjoy a hot lunch at Igongo cultural hotel after Mbarara town and experience the Banyankole culture within an onsite museum.
After a delicious lunch, drive through Lake Mburo National Park where on a lucky day you can spot giraffes, a rare leopard and the common Zebras and impalas.
Another stop will be at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe for a geographical experiment and purchasing some souvenirs. Proceed to Kampala/Entebbe to catch your outbound flight. This will mark the end of this 7 days safari in Uganda.
